buying & merchandisingCritical Path | Product Development
For this module I had to demonstrate the theories and activities and to define the functions, the interaction and the differences between buying and merchandising. This module was a collaborative project working with the supermarket chain George and I was required to develop a range of clothing for either womenswear or menswear AW/2015. I chose womenswear and focussed on dresses. During this module I learnt and understood the vital role that the two functions play in the development of seasonal ranges and range planning. There was three parts to this module: The Shop Report, the Range Plan and the Critical Path. Each stage involved different techniques and research including using WGSN, Illustrator, Excel and Photoshop. I completed a competitive shop report for George and looked at two of it's main competitors F&F at Tesco and Matalan; I Compared product, price, fabrics, colour, country of origin etc... I also completed a SWOT analysis and consumer analysis. Finally, I developed a range plan for George AW/2015 using a range of trend interpretations and market trends. From here, I had to decide when the garments will be phased into store and evidenced this through the use of a critical path and highlighted key deadline dates within the supply chain process. |
